Dr Tim Hutton's Retirement

Dear Patients and Friends, 

After 37 years of family practice in St. George, I will be retiring from full-time practice effective May 1, 2026. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for you and your families over the years, first at 75 Main Street beginning in 1990, and for the past 22 years at 2 Sunnyside Drive. 

Although I am retiring from my practice, I plan to maintain my medical licence and will continue to work part-time as a locum physician, providing vacation relief for local physicians as the need arises. I would like to reassure you that the St. George Medical Centre will remain open and available to meet your medical needs. You will not be left without a family physician. I am very pleased to share that I will be transferring my practice to my colleague, Dr. Mark Hirst. 

Dr. Hirst has been working at the St. George Medical Centre several days per week in a locum capacity since early January and will be transitioning to full-time practice this May. Since completing his training, he has spent the past year and a half working as a hospitalist, providing palliative care and substance use care, and covering shifts in local walk-in clinics. His professional passion is establishing a family practice in a semi-rural Ontario community, having grown up nearby in Georgetown. This mirrors the same goal I held when I began practice in St. George in 1990—one that has been fulfilled beyond my expectations. 

Dr. Hirst comes highly recommended, including by my son, Dr. Alastair Hutton, who supervised him during his family medicine training in Olean, New York. I am confident that he will provide excellent compassionate care to this community. 

Dr. Hirst will be pleased to assume care of all my current patients and medical records. If you prefer to transfer your care to another family physician outside of St. George, we would be happy to arrange the transfer of your records for a small administrative fee. 

Please note that patients currently rostered to me will need to be re-rostered under Dr. Hirst. This requires signing a simple form, which can be picked up at the St. George office or emailed to you upon request.
